Eating Through Europe On A Student Budget: Zurich

Zurich is not the city to go on a student’s budget. Every menu and every hostel we looked at was relatively expensive. Luckily, Zach and I were only there for one night and we spent that night well by eating classic Swiss food at Rheinfelder Bierhalle.

We ate pork schnitzel, smothered in cream of mushroom sauce with spaetzle. The pork was slightly dry but the rich sauce made up for it. It wasn’t exactly delicious or elegant but it was tasty and incredibly comforting.

Even more comforting was the below plate of Rosti (shaved potatoes) with ham and alps cheese.

When we left, we both felt like all of Switzerland had enveloped us in a soft bear hug. And then handed us a huge bill.

Above is the map of the route Zach – one of my best friends – and I took through Europe. We ate three usually delicious meals a day on a budget of 40 euros a day. If you’d like to see more pictures of our Fooducated Euro Trip, check out the Fooducated Faebook page. I’ll be writing about the rest of the cities in the coming days. Also, keep posted for recipes inspired by the dishes we ate.
